• Welcome to Dot Net patterns Development Community

Welcome to the new DNP. (Dot Net Patterns)

This site was originally started as a central repository for Prism & MVVM related info. With time, the goal is have a central place for new and experienced users to come and share their questions, samples and any other types of info pertaining to composite development.

The community has just been established. What will hopefully separate this community from most of the rest is we're openly looking for feedback in laying the site out. Also, the door is open for anyone who has proven a genuine interest in helping out the community to join in the layout of this community.
We're looking for feedback on what everyone would like to see from this site. It can be frustrating trying to make the switch to trying to break the mold of coding as usually and just wiring up events and business logic in code behind.

MVVM is gaining more momentum and it seems several people are going in their own directions. You can find just enough info out there to peak your interest but you can soon run into time consuming situations that may cause a lot to jump ship. In most cases because of time constraints.

Another issue I see is some of the samples and how too's get started and focus on a couple of areas but then in others it seems for the sake of time, they'll take shortcuts and do some things that are questionable pertaining to Composite/Modular development. An example, would be trying to put together a working MVVM sample and demonstrate the proper use of commands and communication between a View and a ViewModel in some cases but then resort back to wiring up events in code behind for others. It can get confusing for somebody trying to learn.

Plus it can be extremely hard to get questions answered. Most info you find are on blogs or places like CodeProject. Don't get me wrong, it's great that everyone has taken the time to post valuable info. But you'll find some blogs with good info but will have the comments section locked from time to time leaving you with no avenue to answer questions.

Then others, the most of the time you are at the mercy of a single person who posted the content to answer. We're all busy and no single person can sustain questions from developers all over the world.

Hence, we felt it was a opportunity to setup a community and try to bring as much information and people together in a single place with the hopes of trying to make transition into composite/modular development much easier for anyone interested.

In closing, this community is for you. Please submit suggestions and ideas you may have to help us set the site up to be as useful as possible. If you'd like to take an active role, please contact me.

    Thanks

    Kris
